About Matthew Potts

A promising pacer from Durham who’d been on England’s radar with the likes of Anderson and Broad coming to the end of their careers, Matthew Potts won a call-up to the Test squad in the summer of 2022 for a series against New Zealand. He picked up 7 wickets on debut at Lord’s and eventually finished the 3-match series as England’s leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets. Opportunities, however, remained sparse with England opting to keep Potts in the background. Returning to county cricket, Potts finished the 2022 season as the second-highest wicket-taker in Division-2 with 58 wickets from 10 matches at an impressive average of 17.87. Potts lived up to the high expectations in 2023 as well by once again ending up as the second-highest wicket-taker in Division-2 with 54 wickets at the end of the season.
