The Drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay about Gang-tae (Kim So-hyun) is a compassionate psychiatric ward nurse. He has spent his life caring for his older brother Moon Sang-tae (Oh Jung-se). His brother has autism. Gang-tae suppresses his emotions, convinced that he must always be strong for his brother. Everything changes when they meet KO Mun-yeong (Seo Ye-ji). Kim Soo-hyun (Moon Gang-tae)
Moon Gang-tae is a kind and selfless caregiver. He works in a psychiatric hospital. He is intelligent, patient, and very sympathetic. He hides deep emotional scars. He lost his mother at a young age. He is taking care of his older brother, Moon Sang-tae. He is autistic. He suppresses his desires and happiness to protect others, especially his brother. His life changes completely when he meets KO Min-yong.
Seo Ye-ji (Ko Mun-yeong)
KO Mun-yeong is a popular children’s book author. She is known for her dark, gothic fairy tales and sharp personality. She appears confident, bold, and even rude. She is a deeply wounded soul. She never received true love or care as a child. She suffers from tendencies toward antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). She struggles to empathize, control her anger, and connect emotionally with others. Her trauma comes from growing up with an abusive mother and a distant father, leaving her emotionally detached and lonely. When she meets Gang Tae, she begins to change. She transforms from a broken, lonely person to someone worthy of love and care. Her development is one of the most powerful parts of the drama.
Park Gyu-young (Nam Ju-ri)
Nam Ju-ri is a nurse. She works with Gang Tae in a psychiatric hospital. She is gentle, responsible, and deeply cares for her patients. She had feelings for Gang Tae since childhood. She has never confessed to him. Ju-ri represents warmth, stability, and understanding in contrast to Mun-yeong chaos. She feels jealous when KO Mun-yeong is attached to Moon Gang-tae. After some time, she becomes a true friend to both Gang Tae and Min-yeong. Her mother also plays a touching role in the drama.
Oh Jung-se (Moon Sang-tae)
Moon Sang-tae is the older brother of Moon Gang-tae. They lost their mother at a young age in a tragic murder. He accidentally witnessed. The trauma caused him to develop an intense fear of butterflies. The killer was wearing a butterfly brooch. Every time he sees a butterfly, he panics, reliving that terrifying memory.
